Well, as prompted by rob07, I have made a return to LiveJournal. It's a shame that this website seems to have died a bit of a death, but people like me are obviously the contributors to that fact. I don't know what I'm going to end up writing - probably nonsense, as before - but time will tell.
A lot has changed in my life since the last time I wrote, so I thought I'd use this entry as a way to sum it all up, in case anyone's wondering.
Home: No longer Grantham as I now live in Croydon, and no longer renting as I'm now a homeowner. And I no longer have objectionable housemates, as I am instead blessed with the company of one lovely boyfriend. (And some less-lovely neighbourhood cats, one of which stole my dinner off the garden table the other night!)
Love: Speaking of that boyfriend, I finally separated the wheat from the chaff and found a good one. :p We've been together for nearly four years, which probably no one saw coming, least of us, but it's a good thing. Obviously. Not much more to report there, really - it's just good.
Work: Thanks to aforementioned boyfriend I said goodbye to King's and moved halfway across the country, but it's all good because I fortunately managed to land a very good job in the process. I'm still teaching, but I now have my finger in both the English and Drama pies, instead of of just one or the other, which is an enjoyable challenge. And speaking of baked goods, work brings with it lots of cake - even more than at King's!
Food: Which brings me to one of my biggest loves, food. I still eat a lot of it. And thoroughly enjoy it. Fortunately I've become a lot more discerning since my early journalling days, and now wouldn't touch McDonald's or KFC with a barge pole. I now eat proper food, cook from scratch, and generally avoid anything that isn't fit to pass my lips. Cake and chocolate do make it through on occasion. Big achievement of the past year was cooking a recipe out of each of our 150 recipe books.
Exercise: This is the main reason I can eat the way I do. :p I go the the gym frequently and have recently started swimming again. This is mainly due to the fact that a string of injuries have forced me to stop running, at least for the time being - frustrating given that I was on track for a good time in a half marathon, but never mind. I'm also keen on walking and am partway through London's Capital Ring, as well as having completed the New Lipchis Way over Easter.
Travel: I've done plenty of other travelling recently too, and really made up for that summer in 2011 when I didn't go on holiday. This year (in addition to the New Lipchis Way break) has involved Bologna, Porto, Lisbon, San Sebastian, Cognac and La Bataille so far, and in a few weeks I will also be able to add Dubrovnik, Washington D.C., Philadelphia and New York City to that list. I have no intention of slowing down either. Australia is on the cards next July-August too.
Television: Left until last because it really needn't be a feature of this list - it's just that it made up such a huge part of old entries I thought I'd better include it. I probably should get cracking on a new layout that's not centred around 'Friends'. I now watch almost no reality TV (except American Ninja Warrior), although I do tend to get a bit sucked in to singing shows like X Factor. My life no longer revolves around the screen in the corner of my living room, but I have been enjoying 'Revenge', 'Elementary' and 'Hannibal'.
I think these are the main details I need to provide at the minute, though I'm sure there are many more things I could say. Best book I've read recently was probably 'Gone Girl' by Gillian Flynn, although 'Under Your Skin' by Sabine Durrant is another notable mention in the same genre. Best film would be 'Blood Diamond', which I only watched for the first time the other night. I don't think I have a current musical love, but I bought Gabrielle Aplin's album this morning. And I saw an outdoor performance of 'Alice in Wonderland' on Friday night, which was lots of fun, and it only rained a little bit.
The old me would have appended a survey to this entry. The 2013 me won't be, because they're a juvenile waste of time and I'm a grown up.
[That song really is playing on my iTunes - but how appropriate for this entry!]
