Resurrection [
[ mood | content ]

Well, as prompted by rob07, I have made a return to LiveJournal. It's a shame that this website seems to have died a bit of a death, but people like me are obviously the contributors to that fact. I don't know what I'm going to end up writing - probably nonsense, as before - but time will tell.

A lot has changed in my life since the last time I wrote, so I thought I'd use this entry as a way to sum it all up, in case anyone's wondering.

Home: No longer Grantham as I now live in Croydon, and no longer renting as I'm now a homeowner. And I no longer have objectionable housemates, as I am instead blessed with the company of one lovely boyfriend. (And some less-lovely neighbourhood cats, one of which stole my dinner off the garden table the other night!)

Love: Speaking of that boyfriend, I finally separated the wheat from the chaff and found a good one. :p We've been together for nearly four years, which probably no one saw coming, least of us, but it's a good thing. Obviously. Not much more to report there, really - it's just good.

Work: Thanks to aforementioned boyfriend I said goodbye to King's and moved halfway across the country, but it's all good because I fortunately managed to land a very good job in the process. I'm still teaching, but I now have my finger in both the English and Drama pies, instead of of just one or the other, which is an enjoyable challenge. And speaking of baked goods, work brings with it lots of cake - even more than at King's!

Food: Which brings me to one of my biggest loves, food. I still eat a lot of it. And thoroughly enjoy it. Fortunately I've become a lot more discerning since my early journalling days, and now wouldn't touch McDonald's or KFC with a barge pole. I now eat proper food, cook from scratch, and generally avoid anything that isn't fit to pass my lips. Cake and chocolate do make it through on occasion. Big achievement of the past year was cooking a recipe out of each of our 150 recipe books.

Exercise: This is the main reason I can eat the way I do. :p I go the the gym frequently and have recently started swimming again. This is mainly due to the fact that a string of injuries have forced me to stop running, at least for the time being - frustrating given that I was on track for a good time in a half marathon, but never mind. I'm also keen on walking and am partway through London's Capital Ring, as well as having completed the New Lipchis Way over Easter.

Travel: I've done plenty of other travelling recently too, and really made up for that summer in 2011 when I didn't go on holiday. This year (in addition to the New Lipchis Way break) has involved Bologna, Porto, Lisbon, San Sebastian, Cognac and La Bataille so far, and in a few weeks I will also be able to add Dubrovnik, Washington D.C., Philadelphia and New York City to that list. I have no intention of slowing down either. Australia is on the cards next July-August too.

Television: Left until last because it really needn't be a feature of this list - it's just that it made up such a huge part of old entries I thought I'd better include it. I probably should get cracking on a new layout that's not centred around 'Friends'. I now watch almost no reality TV (except American Ninja Warrior), although I do tend to get a bit sucked in to singing shows like X Factor. My life no longer revolves around the screen in the corner of my living room, but I have been enjoying 'Revenge', 'Elementary' and 'Hannibal'.

I think these are the main details I need to provide at the minute, though I'm sure there are many more things I could say. Best book I've read recently was probably 'Gone Girl' by Gillian Flynn, although 'Under Your Skin' by Sabine Durrant is another notable mention in the same genre. Best film would be 'Blood Diamond', which I only watched for the first time the other night. I don't think I have a current musical love, but I bought Gabrielle Aplin's album this morning. And I saw an outdoor performance of 'Alice in Wonderland' on Friday night, which was lots of fun, and it only rained a little bit.

The old me would have appended a survey to this entry. The 2013 me won't be, because they're a juvenile waste of time and I'm a grown up.

[That song really is playing on my iTunes - but how appropriate for this entry!]

Unbalanced [
[ mood | sick ]

- I get to see my boy in about 6 hours. :-)

- I'm currently in bed, having taken the day off work (which I NEVER do) because of a stomach bug.
- I have a three hour drive ahead of me this afternoon (and that's if I don't hit traffic).
- I'm not supposed to be eating for 24 hours.
- Dinner reservation for tonight has had to be cancelled for that very reason.
- We have a very rich meal planned for tomorrow which we're supposed to be cooking for his family in honour of his parents' 34th wedding anniversary. A meal which I may well not even be able to eat because I'm supposed to wean myself back onto food gently with things like dry toast and plain biscuits!
(- Totally unrelated, but I have a voucher for a free Thornton's chocolate that expires today and I'm not going to be able to cash it in.)

The things you do for love eh?! Good thing the pro pretty much outweighs the cons!

(By the way, how revolting is this mood icon?!)

Tagged [
[ mood | content ]

i. List seven habits/quirks/facts about yourself.

ii. Tag seven people to do the same.

iii. Do not tag the person who tagged you or say that you tag "whoever wants to do it."

1- Last night I made ice cream for the first time ever.

2- I've recently developed a new appreciation for lizards.

3- I can't wait until next weekend.

4- The ringtone on my phone is Paolo Nutini - Pencil Full of Lead.

5- I REALLY couldn't be bothered going back to work tomorrow!

6- I'm thinking about retaking my driving test to get my manual licence.

7- I have stayed in the most bombed hotel in Europe.

I tag _thisisme, clubcat, fadedglow, funbol and regularcelery. Not so much because I expect or even particularly want you to have to bother with it, just because it said to tag people. :-P

Tired of waiting! [
[ mood | excited ]

6 working days to go!

And, if I'm being REALLY pedantic (and perhaps also slightly pathetic)... 22 teaching hours!

Less than a full day of work until I'm on holidays, if you look at it that way. :-P

Just 'cause I haven't updated for ages... [
[ mood | happy ]

... I'm going to say that I'm very excited to be going to Ireland in twelve days! Woohoo!

On another note, I don't suppose anyone has an MP3 of either 'Bloke' by Chris Franklin or 'Halo' by Beyonce that they wouldn't mind sharing? (Quite an eclectic request I know!)

Signing out with a smile... :-)

And best of all... [
[ mood | loved ]

This is another entry that's really just for me... but I had to have a record of today. Sometimes just when you think life can't get any better, it unexpectedly does - and even the fact that I spent the entire day cleaning can't ruin a thing. In fact, to quote Paolo Nutini, 'nothing's gonna bring me down.'

Of fate and frostbite [
[ mood | freezing ]

I'm at work at the moment and FREEZING. For some reason they seem to think that the Antipodean member of staff can survive in sub-zero indoor conditions! Surely it's not too much to ask to have a working radiator...?

Staff Christmas do tonight. I'm not particularly looking forward to it as I'm not that excited about the food (it's a pretty standard Chinese menu, although it is at a nice restaurant), I don't like a lot of the people going and I am SO tired!!! Sleep has been sacrificed this week in a big way.

Speaking of sacrifices, I've really come to realise recently that sometimes you have to make them in order to get what you want. Fortunately, I have exactly what I want and it turns out that what I've had to sacrifice wasn't that worthwhile anyway.

The Christmas countdown on my whiteboard tells me that there are eight days to go. Knowing me, I won't update again between now and then (although you never know) so if I don't... Merry Christmas to all!

Question for anyone willing to answer: if the burden of choosing somewhere in the UK to go for NYE happened to fall on you, what sort of place might you suggest...?
